Pooper-scooper for a Day

Because I am not crazy enough to pick up scrapbooking, and because I still want to have memories I can read and see, I try to post often on this blog. In preWarren days, the posts were usually just about me or something Roy and I did, but now, it seems everything is about Warren. Well tonight's post is about poop. Yes, folks, poop.... (Are you sure you want to keep reading?)

I suppose if you are a mom, this may not be so bad, but as usual I am being overly dramatic; it's my nature, and I apparently have passed it on to my adorable niece... but I digress. Back to poop.

Ever since Warren was born, he's had trouble pooping. You may remember reading blog posts about it. Since he started on baby food, though, he has become much more regular, though often his poop is hard and just little balls (are you queasy?). I have discovered when he is having a hard time pooping, that if I push his knees into his chest when I'm changing his diaper, it often helps.

This happened yesterday, but sadly, pushing his knees back didn't seem to help. He didn't seem too bothered by the black hole in his butt (ya, that's what it looked like), so we went about our business. He ate dinner while visiting on the webcam with Grammie and Papa. Then he was messy from dinner, so it was time for a bath. (You see where I'm going with this, don't you?)

I put him in the tub and he was playing like normal, but then he started leaning forward and getting red faced. "Oh, geez," I thought. "It's finally my turn." I had heard stories about this happening, and each time I thought Warren was passed the age when this would happen. Nope.

I caught a whiff of stink. I swished aside some bubbles, and there they were: floating balls of poop. (are you gagging?) I wasn't really sure what to do. I knew I had to get them out, and I really didn't want to crush them or break them up anymore, so I did what I never thought I would be doing - I gently scooped each one out with my bare hand and put it into the trash can. I truly believe poop smells worse once it's been wet. It was bad, and of course I had to stay right next to the tub because Warren was still in it, along with little floating bits of poop (and the carrots, or something orange that accompanied it).

I drained the tub, washed down all the remaining poop, refilled the tub, and continued with Warren's bath like normal. Roy heard me talking about the stink, so he came up and politely escorted the bag of poop to the outside trash barrel.

I was pretty grossed out, and to be honest I can still smell the poop even as I type. I guess it will be a memory-by-association thing. I facebooked about it, but I figured I should add it to my blog, while the details are still "fresh" (LOL), so when I look back on this years from now, I won't forget that I become a pooper-scooper for a day.

Hey, is this one of those embarrassing stories I can pull out for Warren's girlfriends to read, so they get scared away????

Recent Happenings (w/Warren, of course!)

Seems I never post anything about me or Roy anymore, just about Warren, but hey, he IS what is happening in our lives right now, so I guess it's natural.

Recently Warren has started making faces. He usually does this while eating. We can make a face to him, and he will make one back. Sometimes he even starts it! I have tried to get it on video, and this is the best I can get so far. (watch his mouth and eyes at the beginning!).

Everyday after school when Warren and I get home, we take Cleo outside. Warren LOVES to be outside. He just looks at the world all around him and takes it all in. I love this pic because it shows him doing just that.
Warren (and Cleo) love to take a wagon ride around the back yard. Usually Cleo's tail is wagging right in Warren's face, and he tries to grab it or bite it. Yesterday he couldn't get Cleo to move over, so he grabbed her butt and squeezed... she moved and sat down, but unfortunately, Warren got her leftover poop on his hand, so we had to stop our wagon ride early. Yuck!
If Roy does it, Warren wants to do it. That goes for just about everything, including making coffee. This scene has become a daily ritual for my boys. Warren helps do everything from scooping the beans, to pushing the grinder button, to putting in the coffee filter, and turning on the coffee pot. He asks to do it nearly everytime we pass the coffee bar.
My million dollar question these days has been, "Why do we even buy toys?" Warren does play with his toys....some...but he really enjoys unloading the kitchen cabinets.
One final video of Warren. It seems he is just days away from walking everywhere on his own. He is getting more balanced and can now walk behind his convertible car walker by himself!
A quick note about our first baby:
Cleo has pretty much returned to normal. She is chasing squirrels, trying to beg on her hind legs (I say "trying" because we try to stop her - it's bad for her back), and has once again picked up barking (we need a replacement battery for her bark collar!). She only weighs 14lbs now, and the doc says if we can get one more pound off her we'll be lucky; she just has a bigger build.

Warren's First Steps

Tonight Warren took his first steps! For a couple weeks now, Roy and I have been sitting on the floor and "walking" Warren back and forth between us. We will hold onto his waist until he seems balanced, then let him go, and usually he will just fall forward into our arms thinking it's really funny.

Tonight when we did this, he actually stood by himself for a few seconds and took a couple of steps to me! He did it again right after, so it wasn't a figment of our imagination! He was so proud of himself, and of course we were super proud of him, too.

Geez, this parenting thing is a blast!

Warren's One Year Pics

We went to Sears today to take Warren's one year pics. They took several cute poses, so I thought I'd share.
We also had Warren's one year check up today. He was 21 3/4lbs (33%tile) and 31" (85%). Guess he'll be tall and skinny like his uncle Adam! Unfortunately, we also learned that W has an ear infection in both ears. Ugh! This is the third time since right before Xmas. He has been moaning in the middle of the night and has a runny nose, but we thought it might all be from teething - he cut his top two teeth on Wed. and Thurs. this week. The doc suggested we wait till the 15mth checkup to do his chicken pox vaccine since he has ear infections and will be on antibiotics. Fine with me.

1st Birthday and more

Our baby is officially one year old!

I know I am biased when I say my son is adorable, but seriously, everywhere we go people comment on how cute he is... I guess love isn't always blind. LOL

This pic cracks me up because it shows how much Warren and Roy look alike!

Since we already had a birthday party for Warren while we were in Okla. for spring break, we just had a mini party here at home. We got an ice cream cake from Baskin Robbins, sang "Happy Birthday," and opened presents. Warren actually cut his top right tooth on his birthday, so he was feverish and not feeling too well. You can definitely tell that in this pic.

Warren got a box from his Grammie, and of course he loved the packing more than the gift.
Grammie and Papa got Warren a tunnel and tent set. He really likes it... and so does Cleo! They meet in the middle and give kisses.
Today Warren's school had an Easter egg hunt. It didn't take him long to start going after the eggs and putting them in his basket.
Here he is enjoying the spoils of his labor - a KitKat bar!
Warren is not walking by himself, but he is getting better at walking while holding on to something!
I love the grin on his face; he's so proud of himself.
